Ingredients

Onions
  • 3 medium sweet onions (preferably Vidalia) peeled and sliced into ¼-inch rings
Butter & Cheeses
  • 4 tablespoons halal butter melted (or unsalted butter if preferred)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Seasonings
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano optional
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Oven
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Peel the onions and slice them into ¼-inch rings. Arrange the slices evenly in the prepared dish, ensuring the rings are slightly separated for even flavor distribution.
  3. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the onion rings.
  4. Season with garlic powder, paprika, dried oregano (if using), and salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheddar, mozzarella, and grated Parmesan cheese over the onions.
  6. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best results, use firm, quality Vidalia onions and freshly grated cheese instead of pre-shredded options, which may contain anti-caking agents. Feel free to experiment with different cheese varieties such as smoked gouda or pepper jack, or even add extra vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for variation. This dish stores well in an airtight container and can be reheated in the microwave or oven. It’s a versatile side that pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, roasted chicken, or a simple green salad.
