Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
For the Filling
  • 1/2 cup well-drained roasted red peppers from a jar
  • 8 slices provolone cheese halved
  • 1/3 pound deli sliced hot salami
  • 1/4 pound deli sliced ham
  • 1/4 pound deli sliced capicola
  • 1/2 cup well-drained hot pepper rings from a jar

Equipment

  • 12-inch pizza pan

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Unroll the refrigerated crescent rolls on your work surface and separate them into 8 rectangles (4 from each can).
  3. Arrange the 8 dough rectangles on an ungreased 12-inch pizza pan in a ring formation so that the short sides form a circle in the center. Allow about half of each rectangle to hang over the edge.
  4. Spread 1/2 cup of well-drained roasted red peppers toward the center of the ring. Then add half of the provolone cheese (remember the slices are halved), followed by layers of hot salami, ham, and capicola. Top with 1/2 cup of hot pepper rings and finish with the remaining cheese.
  5. Fold each overhanging dough piece up and over the filling by tucking it underneath the central layer of dough to fully enclose the ring. This step creates the attractive braided effect.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the dough is completely cooked and has turned a beautiful golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes before slicing, allowing the filling to set for cleaner cuts.

Notes

This Spicy Italian Hero Crescent Ring is perfect for parties and get-togethers, offering a mix of spicy meats and melty cheese wrapped in flaky dough. You can substitute the hot salami for a milder option or swap the provolone with mozzarella based on your preference. Make sure to drain the jarred peppers well to avoid a soggy base. This recipe is versatile and can also be adapted for a vegetarian version by using roasted veggies and extra cheese.
