Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough (8-count)
  • 1 can cherry pie filling about 21 oz
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese softened
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar for the cream cheese mixture
  • 1 teaspoon non-alcoholic vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar optional, for topping
  • ½ cup powdered sugar optional, for glaze
  • 1-2 teaspoons milk optional, for glaze

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of softened cream cheese, 1 tablespoon powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon non-alcoholic vanilla until smooth and creamy.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles.
  4. Place about ½ teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each triangle. Top with 1–2 cherries (along with a little of the surrounding sauce) from the cherry pie filling. Be careful not to overfill, so the dough is easier to seal.
  5. Fold the corners of each dough triangle over the filling and pinch the edges to seal. A little filling peeking out creates a charming, rustic look.
  6. Place all the assembled bites on your prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with 1 tablespoon melted butter and, if desired, sprinkle with 2 tablespoons coarse sugar for a bakery-style finish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes or until the bites turn a perfect golden-brown.
  8. If you’re using the optional glaze, mix ½ cup powdered sugar with 1–2 teaspoons milk while the bites are cooling, then drizzle the glaze over the top.

Notes

These Cherry Pie Bites are a wonderful combination of a creamy, tangy filling and a flaky, buttery exterior. Using store-bought refrigerated crescent dough and cherry pie filling keeps the assembly super simple, yet the result feels indulgent. For a twist, try swapping the cherry filling with blueberry, apple, or strawberry, and consider adding a touch of lemon zest to the cream cheese mixture for extra zing. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce for an elevated dessert experience.
