  • rosemary sprig one for infusing, extra for garnish
  • 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup or simple syrup adjust to taste
  • 3-4 ounces club soda or sparkling water chilled; about 90-120 ml
  • ice as needed
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice optional, to balance sweetness
  • thin blood orange wheel optional garnish

Equipment

  • Tall glass
  • Spoon or stirrer

Method

  1. Start by gently clapping the rosemary sprig between your palms to release its aromatic oils and place it in a tall glass.
  2. Pour in 1/2 cup (120 ml) of fresh blood orange juice and add 1-2 teaspoons of maple syrup or simple syrup. If desired, mix in 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to balance the sweetness.
  3. Stir the mixture well to ensure the sweetener dissolves completely.
  4. Fill the glass with ice and slowly pour in 3-4 ounces (90-120 ml) of chilled club soda or sparkling water. Use a gentle stir to combine the flavors without disrupting the bubbles.
  5. Garnish with an extra rosemary sprig or a thin blood orange wheel perched on the rim, and serve immediately.

Notes

This Blood Orange Rosemary Fizz is an effortlessly elegant drink perfect for brunch or any festive gathering. You can easily adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of syrup, and if blood oranges are out of season, try substituting with regular oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, or even Meyer lemons. For a different herbal twist, basil or thyme works nicely in place of rosemary. If preparing for a larger group, mix the juice and sweetener ahead of time and add ice and bubbles just before serving to keep the fizz intact.
