Method
- Combine the 2 cups of fresh blackberries, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, lime zest, and lime juice in a medium saucepan.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir frequently. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 25–30 minutes until the berries break down and the liquid thickens into a glossy jam.
- For a smoother consistency, blend the jam with an immersion blender. For a chunkier texture, simply mash the berries with a fork or potato masher to your desired consistency.
- Remove the pan from heat and let the jam cool completely before transferring it to a clean jar. Store in the refrigerator for 2–3 weeks.
Notes
This homemade blackberry lime jam is as versatile as it is simple. You can experiment by adding a pinch of cinnamon for a warming autumn twist or swapping half the blackberries with raspberries or blueberries for a varied berry medley. Fresh herbs like mint or basil can be added during simmering (remember to remove them before jarring) to infuse an unexpected brightness. Enjoy it on toast, stirred into yogurt, with cheese and crackers, or even over desserts, and always store in the refrigerator.
