Blackberry Lime Jam

This blackberry lime jam is a beautifully balanced blend of tart lime and sweet blackberries. With just four simple ingredients, it’s versatile enough to brighten your morning toast, mix into yogurt, or even serve as a glaze for chicken. The natural pectin in the berries, activated by fresh lime juice, creates a rich, spreadable consistency that’s both simple and satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh blackberries Select plump, deeply colored berries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adjust to taste if berries are very tart
  • 1 lime zest Use the zest of 1 lime for aromatic oils
  • 1 lime juice Freshly squeezed from 1 lime

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Stirring spoon
  • Immersion blender or fork (optional)

Method

  1. Combine the 2 cups of fresh blackberries, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, lime zest, and lime juice in a medium saucepan.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir frequently. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 25–30 minutes until the berries break down and the liquid thickens into a glossy jam.
  3. For a smoother consistency, blend the jam with an immersion blender. For a chunkier texture, simply mash the berries with a fork or potato masher to your desired consistency.
  4. Remove the pan from heat and let the jam cool completely before transferring it to a clean jar. Store in the refrigerator for 2–3 weeks.

Notes

This homemade blackberry lime jam is as versatile as it is simple. You can experiment by adding a pinch of cinnamon for a warming autumn twist or swapping half the blackberries with raspberries or blueberries for a varied berry medley. Fresh herbs like mint or basil can be added during simmering (remember to remove them before jarring) to infuse an unexpected brightness. Enjoy it on toast, stirred into yogurt, with cheese and crackers, or even over desserts, and always store in the refrigerator.
