Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and heat a large skillet.
- Cook the 6 slices of chopped turkey bacon in the skillet over medium heat until they become nice and crisp. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate and leave about 1 tablespoon of the bacon fat in the pan.
- In the same skillet, add 1 pound of ground beef and 1 small diced onion. Cook for about 6-8 minutes, until the beef is browned and the onion softens.
- Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper. Then mix in 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon yellow mustard, and 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce. Fold the cooked bacon back into the mixture.
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in the 10.5 oz can of condensed cheddar cheese soup and 1 cup sour cream until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish. Top with 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese, arrange the frozen tater tots (from the 32 oz bag) in a single layer on top, and then sprinkle the remaining cup of cheese evenly over the tots.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden and crispy and the cheese is bubbling around the edges.
- Garnish with the sliced green onions just before serving.
Notes
This Bacon Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole is a creative twist on traditional comfort food, inspired by all the great flavors of a cheeseburger. You can easily swap turkey bacon with regular bacon or even plant-based alternatives for a different twist, and adding extra veggies like bell peppers or mushrooms works well too. The dish is practical for busy weeknights and tastes even better as leftovers. Serve with a fresh side salad or coleslaw to balance the rich flavors.
