Ingredients

Meatloaf
  • 2 pounds ground beef 80/20 recommended
  • 1 cup fresh bread crumbs or crushed saltine crackers
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped optional
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Halal Worcestershire sauce
Glaze
  • ½ cup ketchup for topping
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar for topping
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (yellow or Dijon) for topping
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar for topping

Equipment

  • 9x5-inch loaf pan
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small bowl
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x5-inch loaf pan by greasing it well or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, fresh bread crumbs (or crushed saltine crackers), chopped onion, and finely chopped green bell pepper (if using).
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the bowl: large eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Halal Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Mix everything gently with your hands until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.
  5. Transfer the mixture to your prepared loaf pan and shape it into a smooth loaf by patting it down evenly.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, and apple cider vinegar to create the sweet-tangy glaze.
  7. Spread half of the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf before placing it in the oven.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 60-75 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F or the juices run clear.
  9. Allow the meatloaf to rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

This Amish Meatloaf is a forgiving, classic dish that lets you enjoy a homestyle meal with minimal fuss. The inclusion of milk and bread crumbs makes it incredibly moist, while the sweet-tangy glaze caramelizes during baking for an irresistible finish. Feel free to experiment with substitutions like ground turkey, dairy alternatives, or adding extra veggies for a personal twist. Leftovers work wonderfully for sandwiches the next day.
