Ingredients

  • 2 large Apples Honeycrisp or Granny Smith recommended
  • ½ cup All-purpose flour sifted if desired
  • 2 tablespoons Non-dairy milk any type (almond, oat, or soy)
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • Nonstick cooking spray for spraying the apple fries

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Three mixing bowls
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Peel the apples if desired and cut them into fry-like sticks. Pat each apple stick dry with a paper towel to ensure the coating will stick properly.
  2. Set up three bowls: in the first bowl, place the ½ cup of all-purpose flour; in the second bowl, add 2 tablespoons of non-dairy milk; and in the third bowl, combine 1 cup of panko breadcrumbs with 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
  3. Dredge each apple stick by first coating it lightly in flour, then dipping it quickly in the non-dairy milk, and finally rolling it in the seasoned panko mixture. Ensure each piece is evenly coated.
  4. Place the coated apple sticks in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Lightly spray them with nonstick cooking spray and avoid overcrowding — work in batches if necessary.
  5. Set your air fryer to 380°F and cook for 7-9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time until the apple fries turn golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve immediately while warm with your favorite dip such as caramel sauce, vanilla yogurt, or whipped cream.

Notes

These air fryer apple fries offer a fast, delicious, and healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried desserts. They are ideal for a quick snack or a unique dessert for fall gatherings, and the recipe is highly adaptable—you can experiment with different coating variations such as crushed graham crackers or alternative spices like pumpkin pie spice. The key to a perfect fry is ensuring the apple slices are dry before coating, which helps achieve that irresistible crunch. Enjoy them warm and pair with your favorite dipping sauce for an extra treat.
